Arsenal are seeking a wealth of transfer business this summer to bolster their side and hand incoming boss Unai Emery a squad capable of fighting for prestigious honours.

The Europa League semi-finalists have spent heavily to improve their attacking ranks during the past 12 months, signing Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and will now shift their focus towards the defence.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo states that Arsenal remain keen on Porto’s Danilo Pereira, although they have concerns on the 26-year-old’s fitness after he was ruled out of Portugal’s World Cup squad due to an achilles injury.

Capped 27 times by his nation, and winning the European Championships in 2016, Pereira’s defensive-minded approach to his midfield game could be exactly what Arsenal have been crying out for in recent seasons.

He could also be a stellar addition for Unai Emery, who has crafted the likes of Grzegorz Krychowiak and Steven N’Zonzi into crucial members of his Sevilla squad during his successful years in Andalusia.
