Arsenal’s search for a new manager appears to have come to a close and it’s not the figure that was expected to take charge at the Emirates Stadium.

Reports during the past week have widely suggested that former club captain Mikel Arteta would return to the club to succeed Arsene Wenger but that’s swiftly changed – and former Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery is now expected to be appointed imminently.

The Spaniard left the French champions at the end of the season, falling short of the club’s expectations in the Champions League, but remains highly-rated following his successful stint in charge of Sevilla – who he led to three consecutive Europa League crowns.

46-year-old Emery is said to have won over Arsenal’s senior figures, which include Ivan Gazidis and Raul Sanhelli, and now faces a huge task to unite the fans and build a squad capable of fighting for honours both domestically and the continent.
