Wenger himself has stated the reason for Ozil’s absence is due to a back injury, which the international has struggled with in the past, but many are suggesting that this is simply an excuse – a view that’s reportedly shared by some within the squad.

Ozil signed a mega new contract earlier this year to end speculation on his future, ruling out the prospect of a free this summer, but will need to pick-up his performances if he’s to get back on-side with the and his team-mates.
