Arsenal are eyeing a number of improvements to their squad this summer but seem to have begun their busy close-season by trying to complete a swoop for a highly-rated defensive prospect.

The Sun claims Arsenal, along with Manchester United, have offered a contract to 16-year-old defender Melayro Bogarde, the nephew of former Chelsea star Winston Bogarde.

Clubs in Europe are said to be queuing up for the defensive ace but have been unable to make a move for the teenager due to his age, although he’s due to turn 16 in June and will therefore be able to secure his services.

Arsenal and Manchester United have made the first approaches but Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are also linked with the defender who has been likened to Premier League winning centre-half John Stones due to his height, strength and ball-playing ability.

Currently on the books of Eredivisie side Feyenoord, it’s unlikely he’ll remain in Holland this summer and German outfit RB Leipzig are also keen on the youngster.
