Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would not be drawn on whether the club are interested in signing Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow.

The 21 year old scored from a free kick to level the score at 1-1 in the Europa League tie last night, but before the match, the Frenchman was asked about the attacking midfielder, and he had this to say:

“You can understand that if I speak to you about respect, that I do not want to come out and speak about transfers of some CSKA Moscow players to Arsenal. That is not the case at the moment and I don’t think it would be appropriate to talk about something like that the day before the game.”

Golovin has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates over the past year. This season, the Russian international has contributed six goals and four assists in 35 games for CSKA.

He generally plays in a more attacking midfield role than he did yesterday, and he is no doubt someone the club would be looking to sign if the Gunners do lose Jack Wilshere in the summer.

The 26 year old’s contract impasse with the club continues, and it looks increasingly likely that he will depart the club when his current deal expires at the end of June.
