Arsenal face a stern test this summer to improve their ranks and there’s likely to be plenty of business around their midfield, due to the likely losses of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla at the end of their contracts.
The Gunners are understood to be in the market for potential replacements and one name that continues to appear is that of Russia international Aleksandr Golovin, who caught the eye in his Europa League performances against the north London side.
CSKA Moscow ace Golovin scored a stunning free-kick at the Emirates Stadium last week before putting in another solid showing in last night’s quarter-final second-leg, which Arsenal won on aggregate, and Wenger praised the 21-year-old ahead of the game.
Quoted by The Daily Mirror, he said:
“His performances are very good. He’s a regular player in the Russian national team, so he’s a strong player. CSKA have two players in the midfield who play in the national team, Dzagoev and Golovin, so they have the best midfield in the country.”
Golovin has the chance to catch the eye once again at this summer’s World Cup, where he carries the hopes of the host nation on his shoulders.
