Arsenal face a stern task this summer to rejuvenate their ranks after another disappointing Premier League display has left the Gunners set for a second consecutive finish outside the top-four.
Europa League glory now stands as the only route for Arsene Wenger’s side back into the Champions League and the north London side have one foot in the semi-finals of the competition after a 4-1 victory against CSKA Moscow last week.
However, there’s still plenty for Arsenal to work on and significant efforts are needed behind the scenes to secure the futures of some key assets- although Wenger has now issued a major boost in the quest for one midfielder’s signature.
Quoted by The Sun, Wenger revealed that contract negotiations with Aaron Ramsey are underway, with the Welshman’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2019, and he’s confident of an agreement.
“We are communicating. Yes, I’m confident, he’s not at the end of his contract, he has one-and-a-half years to go. From my side it is clear, but you always have to find an agreement.”
“We want him to stay. He’s one of these guys who has been here for a long time. He will be an important player in the future of this club.”
Ramsey, a two-time FA Cup hero for the Gunners, is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium and considered to be a contender to take the armband from Per Mertesacker this summer.
