Arsenal face a stern test in landing their ideal midfield targets this summer, as reports on the continent suggest interest from elsewhere is rising significantly.

The Gunners, along with Premier League rivals Liverpool, have been touted with interest in Barcelona’s Croatia international Ivan Rakitic, who could become surplus to requirements at Camp Nou following the capture of Arthur from Gremio.

However, Mundo Deportivo state the two English giants face serious competition in the market as it’s claimed that recently crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are eyeing a mammoth swoop worth £70m.

Rakitic, who turned 30 last month, has experience within German football after spending four seasons with Schalke before joining Sevilla in 2010 and may jump at the chance to return to the league.

The experienced midfielder could also raise further interest this summer with his performances at the World Cup, where Croatia tackle Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland in the group stage.
