Arsenal have plenty of work to do this summer and the Gunners seem prepared to put their shift in during the summer market, as it’s claimed they’re eyeing a sensational swoop.
Spanish outlet AS claim Arsenal have initiated contact with Atletico Madrid regarding a potential deal to bring 23-year-old Spain international Saul Niguez to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger’s side are set to lose Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla on free transfers in the coming months, increasing the need for midfield additions, and Alexis Sanchez’s departure to Manchester United has left the Gunners looking for star recruits.
However, the report adds that Saul is currently happy at the Wanda Metropolitano with Diego Simeone’s side and a deal is therefore unlikely to be agreed, especially as he’s tied down to Atletico until 2026 and has a whopping £130m release-clause in his contract.
Saul showed his loyalty to the La Liga giants by penning a nine-year extension to his contract last summer, suggesting he’s prepared to remain in the Spanish capital for the long-haul.
