Arsenal are likely to place a lot of focus into improving their midfield ranks during the summer transfer window, as the Gunners currently look set to lose both Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla at the end of their contracts.

The loss of two senior midfielders will be a huge blow to Arsenal but they’ve received a boost in the chase for one midfield target, who is set to be available for a bargain fee of around £8m during the summer transfer window.

The Sun quotes Schalke director Christian Heidel as confirming that German international Max Meyer is likely to leave this summer, with his services being available for a mere compensation package at the end of his contract.

“At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that. There is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again.”

Tracked by Arsenal and Liverpool, German outlet Bild state the 22-year-old is keen on a Premier League switch and that the Gunners currently stand as favourites to land his signature.
