Arsenal know they have work to do in the summer transfer market and a major rebuild is likely to occur defensively, after a disappointing campaign.

The Gunners are poised to lose veteran captain at the end of his contract, with the winner set to take a coaching role with the academy, and that’s left Arsene Wenger’s side in the hunt for an addition at the heart of defence.

According to reports cited by The SunArsenal are looking to capture another ace from Borussia Dortmund as the side are eyeing a move for Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The 29-year-old, rated at £25m, is reportedly keen to leave the Bundesliga side in search of a new challenge and may have the opportunity to reunite with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and at Stadium.

Competition for Sokratis is likely to be fierce though, as Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester United are all attributed with an interest.
