Arsenal are set for a major recruitment drive this summer as they seek to improve on a disappointing campaign, which is likely to lead them to look to bolster their defensive ranks.

The Gunners are set to lose captain Per Mertesacker this summer, with the German World Cup winner poised to take a role with the academy, and Arsenal are searching the market for a replacement- and it seems there is someone on their minds.

Portuguese outlet Record state that Arsenal were in attendance this week to watch Porto’s U19 side in action in a 2-0 UEFA Youth League victory over Tottenham Hotspur this week, with young defender Diogo Leite the man being targeted.

The 19-year-old centre-back rose home to head the opening goal past the Lilywhites, on the night that Spurs were knocked out of the competition, but Arsenal are not the only side keen as it’s also stated that Everton were in attendance.

Contracted with Porto until 2020, Leite is yet to make a senior appearance for his side and could be tempted to move away this summer.
