Arsenal are set for a major recruitment drive this summer and could be ready to spend heavily in the summer, after flexing their financial muscles in recent windows to sign Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The signing of the two forwards, along with the capture of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the new contract issued to Mesut Ozil, has significantly improved the Gunners’ options in the final third and reports now suggest that Arsenal will look to strengthen at the other end of the field.

Petr Cech, now 36, needs replacing and Arsenal’s top-target for the summer is Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who would cost a vast amount due to his £89m release-clause in the Spanish capital.

However, the Europa League quarter-finalists seem to be preparing for the departure of their 26-year-old stopper as ESPN states Diego Simeone’s side have eyed RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi as a potential replacement.

The 27-year-old Hungarian, formerly of Liverpool, is seen as the ideal option for Atletico but the Spanish giants could face competition in the market from Chelsea, who risk losing Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.
