The veteran goalkeeper has consistently underperformed in recent seasons and it’s clear the former Chelsea man is past his best. However, a player of his experience is unlikely to accept being a reserve and an exit should therefore be sanctioned.
Now 35, the Czech Republic international is well into the twilight years of his career and doesn’t have too long left at the top. Arsenal need to be ruthless in their assessment of the goalkeeper, who’s no longer good enough to be a starter and who will have minimal valuation in the coming years.
It’s debatable whether David Ospina is the man capable of taking the mantle and a new signing in this area may be necessary but Arsenal need to make a bold call.
