Arsenal have announced that striker Chuba Akpom has signed for Belgian club Sint-Truidense on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 22 year old has spent spells at Brighton, Hull City, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Brentford over the past four years, but this latest move is certainly the most surprising.
Sint-Truidense are not a club that most English football fans will be familiar with. The Jupiler Pro League side were promoted to Belgian’s top flight in 2015, and have generally struggled at the wrong end of the table since their promotion.
They finished 14th out of 16 teams in their first season in the top tier, but they ended up two places higher in 12th position last campaign.
The Belgian side are currently sitting comfortably mid table in 6th this year, but Akpom will have to get used to playing in front of a lot less people than he was used when playing for Championship clubs. Sint-Truidense have an average attendance of 6000.
