Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains determined to snap up Schalke midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer, according to the Daily Star.

The German international is out of contract in the summer, and reports in recent months have suggested that the Gunners are keen on the 22 year old.

However, Mundo Deportivo reported last week that Meyer wants to sign for Bayern Munich. The Catalan newspaper says that Barcelona were keen on the player but they pulled out of the race after finding out about the midfielder’s preferred destination.

That seemingly hasn’t deterred Wenger and Arsenal from pursuing the German though. Sport Bild have said that the Gunners have sent scouts to watch the playmaker in recent weeks.

The same publication has claimed that Meyer’s club Schalke have given the player until March 20th to decide on his future. He has been offered a new deal by his current club, but Liverpool and AC Milan are also said to be interested, along with Arsenal and Bayern.
