Saint Etienne are battling West Bromwich Albion for Arsenal right back Mathieu Debuchy, according to Telefoot.

The French TV station report that “discussions” have taken place between the French club and the defender, with the Gunners willing to let the 32 year old leave on a free transfer.

Debuchy does have 18 months remaining on his current contract but he is not in manager Arsene Wenger’s first team plans, and was told to find another team last summer.

A move to Nice collapsed back in July, and so he has stayed at the Emirates as he looks for a new club.

West Bromwich Albion are also believed to be in the running for the full back, but his switch to the Hawthorns may depend on Jonny Evans moving in the other direction.

It means that if the Northern Irish international does not make the move to Arsenal, Debuchy’s likeliest destination is Saint Etienne.
