Besiktas change transfer targets from one Arsenal striker to another

|

Besikitas have switched targets from Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to Danny Welbeck in recent days, according to Fotomac.

The Turkish side are looking to replace Cenk Tosun, who was sold to Everton for £27m last week. Reports from Turkey had indicated that Gunners forward Giroud was the likeliest target to replace him at the club.

Fotomac report that Arsenal are not willing to let the Frenchman leave, and it seems this has led to Besiktas president Fikret Orman considering Welbeck instead.

Orman was on holiday with his family in London, but that didn’t stop him from watching Arsenal versus Chelsea last Wednesday, to see Welbeck play. The 27 year old’s contract with the Gunners expires in 2019, and Besiktas are hoping to persuade the England international that his next move should be abroad, rather than staying in England.

Welbeck still wants to stay in the Premier League, but Besiktas are said to be looking to convince the forward to change his mind with the prospect of Champions League football. Orman has reportedly made first contact with Arsenal about Welbeck. Whether anything comes out of those talks, we will have to wait and see.
