Schalke Sporting Director Christian Heidel has denied that Leon Goretzka has agreed to sign for Bayern Munich.
The 22 year old is being pursued by Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona and many other clubs, but reports in Germany over the weekend had suggested the midfielder had made his decision to join Bayern in the summer.
When asked about the story (quotes via the Sun), Heidel revealed that Goreztka’s agent had told him there is no agreement with any team currently:
“Jorg Neubauer has yesterday confirmed to me that there is no decision so far.”
The news will come as a big boost to the Gunners who have been tracking Goretzka for a long time. The German international’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he is able to speak to clubs about moving on a free transfer in July.
The midfielder is no doubt one of the most highly sought after Bosman signings. At 22, he has the best years ahead of him, and could be an integral first team player in the heart of the Gunners’ midfield if they do manage to secure his signature.
