Arsenal could lose out on Napoli playmaker Jorginho with the central midfielder poised to sign a new deal with the Serie A leaders, according to Il Mattino.

The Brazilian born Italian international has been scouted by the Gunners for a number of years due to his excellent passing range, and ability to dictate play.

Jorginho’s performances this season have been integral to Maurizio Sarri’s side topping the table ahead of Juventus, and Napoli have been keen to extend the 26 year old’s stay beyond his current deal.

Il Mattino reports the Partenopei have offered a two year contract extension until 2022, worth €3m a season.  It means the Italian’s wage will double from £25,000 a week to £50,000 a week.

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to have arranged a meeting in the next few days to tie up the deal for Jorginho, indicating that Arsenal will have to move on to other targets if they want to sign a playmaker.
