Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio was in the stands to watch Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Uruguayan international’s contract expires at the end of the season, and has been linked with Premier League clubs such as Arsenal for well over a year. Inter are however favourites for the centre back with Ausilio watching on to make an assessment of the 22 year old.

Gimenez expressed his admiration for the Premier League back in the summer, but also stated he would stay with Atletico if they offered him a “contract for life:”

“I dream of playing in the Premiership because the matches are very even. I would like to go, but if Atletico makes me a contract for life I will stay.

The Spanish side have reportedly made another attempt to renew the centre half’s contract, the Corriere Dello Sport reports, and with the Uruguayan having started more regularly this season, compared to last campaign, the odds on the player staying in Spain are now a lot higher than back in the summer.
