Arsenal may have another rival in their long term pursuit of Besikitas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup. Milliyet are reporting that Hertha Berlin have become the latest club watching the Turkish international.
The 25 year old has been tipped by Turkish media to make a move to the Gunners when the January transfer window opens next month. Some have even suggested that Besiktas president Fikret Orman has offered the midfielder in exchange for Jack Wilshere.
Whether that is true or not, there is still a certain symmetry between Ozyakup and the England international. Both are out of contract at the end of the season, both are 25, and both came through the academy at Arsenal.
Talent wise though, it doesn’t look like that the Gunners would be getting an upgrade on Wilshere. Although he captains a Besikitas side that has made it to the last 16 of the Champions League, Ozyakup has not scored this season, and he has made just three assists. His lack of creativity compared to Wilshere would certainly discourage Arsenal in making a move for the player.
