Arsenal are monitoring Udinese right back Silvan Widmer, reports Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian website says the Swiss international is being lined up by manager Arsene Wenger, and new head of football relations Raul Sanllehi, as a possible replacement for Hector Bellerin if the Spaniard does leave the Gunners.

The full back was keen to leave Arsenal for Barcelona in the summer, but the Catalan club withdrew their interest and signed Nelson Semedo from Benfica instead. The Italian newspaper Tuttosport however believe that Juventus retain an interest in the 22 year old.

Regardless of Bellerin’s situation though, it seems Widmer is very much on the Gunners’ radar. The 24 year old has been Udinese’s regular right back for the past four years, and is equally comfortable playing as a winger or as a full back, making him a good fit for Arsenal’s right wing back position.

In his 123 appearances for Udinese, he has played 56 times on the wing and 50 times at full back, showing he has a great deal of experience wherever he is used on the right flank.
