Liverpool will rival Arsenal for PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano, according to the Daily Star‘s chief football reporter David Woods.

The tabloid reports that the Reds have “made contact” with PSV about the Mexican international as they search for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, in case the Brazilian departs for Barcelona in the January transfer window.

A report in the Mexican publication Super Deportivo last week suggested that both the Gunners and Everton had made offers of €48m or £42.6m for the 22 year old.

Lozano only moved to the Eredivisie from Pachuca in the summer, but he has made an instant impact in Dutch football with 11 goals and seven assists in 20 league games.

Nicknamed “Chucky” in his home country, the winger has pace to burn, and good dribbling ability, having been tipped as “Mexico’s next world-class star” by Four Four Two magazine. He is certainly meeting expectations at the moment, but could he handle the step up in class to the Premier League?
