Arsenal are the only team in the running for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to Don Balon.

The Frenchman has been frequently linked with a switch to the Emirates by the Spanish publication but the forward so far remains firmly part of Real manager Zinedine Zidane’s first team plans.

The club’s poor start to the season and their 3-0 home loss to Barcelona last week may however prompt president Florentino Perez into action. Don Balon have regularly suggested that Perez wants Benzema out of the club, despite giving the player a new four year contract in September.

The French forward could be sold as part of Real’s plans to revamp the squad in the January transfer window, but it is being reported that the only interested party are the Gunners, who are adamant they won’t pay above €40m (£36m) for the striker. The figure is well below what Perez believes to be the market value of the player despite Benzema being 30 years of age, and having only scored five times this campaign.
