Real Madrid may step up their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the January transfer window, according to AS.

The Madrid based publication say the La Liga champions are extremely keen on signing the 23 year old with current number one Keylor Navas out injured and reserve keeper Kiko Casilla failing to impress in his absence.

Kepa is currently involved in a contract dispute with Bilbao, and his current deal does expire in the summer, which has prompted interest not only from Real, but from Arsenal as well.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a young goalkeeper as a long term replacement for Petr Cech, and he was interested in Jordan Pickford last summer before the stopper joined Everton.

Kepa has been locked in contract discussions for almost a year, but has failed to come to agreement with Bilbao over his wages. The Spanish international is demanding parity with the Basque club’s top earners Aymeric Laporte and Aritz Aduriz, but so far there has been no breakthrough in talks.
