Arsenal are lining up Borussia Dortmund chief scout Sven Mislintat as their next head of recruitment, according to ESPN.

Sources told the website that although nothing has been finalised yet, the German is the Gunners top target to replace outgoing head scout Steve Rowley who is being tipped to leave his role at the club.

Mislintat has been widely praised for his part, alongside sporting director Michael Zorc, in bringing top young talent to Dortmund over the past few years. The talents of Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele were spotted very early on, and allowed the German club to compete with dominant Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

In recent months, reports have circulated that former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars could join the Gunners in a Director of Football role. The Dutchman performs the same role at Ajax, but last month he denied links that he would be returning to his old club.

Manager Arsene Wenger has previously resisted calls for a sporting director but the Frenchman may be happier with someone like Mislintat whose extensive scouting network could compliment the Gunners manager’s own contacts and connections.
