Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez remains a target for top European clubs, including Arsenal, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
There have been reports in Spain that the Uruguayan will sign a three year contract extension until 2021 but the Italian website says other teams are still hopeful that they can sign the 22 year old on a pre-contract agreement in January,
Gimenez’s current deal is set to expire in the summer, and in addition to the Gunners, Inter Milan, Juventus, Roma, Manchester United, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are all in the running to sign the centre back.
The Uruguayan international has made six starts in 16 games for Atletico this campaign under manager Diego Simeone, and it is believed that the defender may be seeking a move elsewhere in order to become a first team regular.
The centre half currently has a €65million buyout clause which has put off suitors while the player has been under contract, but foreign clubs will have the opportunity to talk to Gimenez in under two months time about a free transfer at the end of the season.
