Arsenal and Atletico Madrid would like to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho, according to Calciomercato.com, but the Serie A league leaders are confident that the Italian international will sign a new contract.

The 25 year old’s current deal expires in 2020, but his performances for the Partenopei this season mean the Italian club are keen to tie the Brazilian born midfielder down with a contract extension, and ward off the likes of the Gunners with a wage rise. Talks over a new contract are expected to start early next year.

Jorginho has been integral to Napoli’s unbeaten start to the league season. Playing as the anchor man in midfield, he directs play with his accurate passing, and has allowed the likes of Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Mark Hamsik to deal opponents damage in the final third of the pitch.

The Italian has contributed hugely to Napoli currently sitting top of the Serie A table, with 35 points, 11 wins and two draws from 13 games played.
