Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright does not believe there is any chance that Mesut Ozil will sign a new contract with the Gunners, and he thinks it is almost certain that the 29 year old will join Manchester United.

The German has been most heavily linked with a switch to Barcelona in the Spanish media over the past week but Wright told the BBC (quotes via the Mirror) that the playmaker will make the move to Old Trafford instead:

“Mesut Ozil on a free to Manchester United looks a shoo-in. I’m sure Jose would love to do that. That would frighten me to death. He is a great talent and having great players around him would lift him up as well. I’m sure him and his agent would not push it this far if they were going to sign (for Arsenal).”

Ozil enjoyed a three year spell working under United boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid. The pair effectively joined the La Liga side and left the Bernabeu at the same time, with both arriving in Spain in the summer of 2010 before leaving in 2013.

Reports in Spain suggest that Barca are the club who are leading the race for the German international. Both Catalan sports publications Mundo Deportivo and Sport have reported extensively on the story, and although Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is still seen as the primary target, Ozil looks to be the La Liga leaders’ second choice.
