Arsenal are among three Premier League teams pursuing Shakhtat Donetsk winger Bernard, according to UOL Esporte.

The 25 year old’s contract expires at the end of the season, but there has been speculation that the player could return to his native Brazil to play for Palmeiras in January.

UOL however report that Bernard wants to stay in Europe, and that Shakhtar’s €13m (£11.5m) asking price would also be prohibitive for the Brazilian club to sign the midfielder.

Instead, it is believed the playmaker has received enquiries from the Gunners, Chelsea and Liverpool. Whether this is in view to a transfer in the January transfer window, or for a free transfer at the end of the season, it is not known.

Bernard will be able to speak to foreign clubs about signing a pre-contract agreement in January, and the Brazilian, who has 15 caps for his country, will likely be one of the most in demand players available on a Bosman for next season.
