The agent of Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt says his client won’t be leaving the Dutch club this season, but he has not revealed what the 18 year old’s plans are beyond the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport (quotes translated by Goal.com), Barry Hulshoff has clarified de Ligt’s immediate future at the Amsterdam Arena:
“The intention is to stay at Ajax at least until summer. He signed a new contract in Amsterdam in August 2017. He is fixed until the summer of 2021.”
Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the centre back in recent days while Arsenal have had a long standing interest in the defender, according to the Sun.
De Ligt broke through into Ajax’s first team in the second half of last season, and played an integral role in helping the Eredivisie side to the Europa League final, where they lost out to Manchester United.
The centre half already has two caps for the Dutch senior side despite only being a teenager, and it seems he could well be in demand from some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the summer.
