PSG midfielder’s central performance firmly shuts door on Arsenal switch

|

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler has once again tried to dampen speculation that he will leave the French club in January.

The arrivals of both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the club have prompted much talk about the German international’s future in France, with Arsenal and a number of other clubs linked with the player.

The 24 year old  however remains a firm fixture in the first team despite question marks over where he would fit into Unai Emery’s team. Speaking after Saturday’s 6-2 home win against Bordeaux, where he scored and provided an assist, he said:

“I’m sure it was my best game [for PSG] against Bordeaux, it’s a pleasure to play with this team [and] for me in this position.”

Draxler was playing in the number 10 role behind the front three of Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Mbappe, who all scored in the rout. He played the full 90 minutes for the Ligue One leaders, and it looks safe to say that he is an important first team player, with a January departure away from the club now looking extremely unlikely.
