Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye will sign a new contract with the Merseyside club before the end of the week, according to the Sun journalist Mike McGrath.

The Daily Mail had linked the Senegalese international with Arsenal in recent days, but it seems the holding midfield player will sign a £4million a year deal, keeping him at Goodison Park until 2022.

There may still be potential for the 28 year old to make a switch to the Gunners in the future though. Gueye is believed to have a “gentleman’s agreement” with the Toffees that will allow him to move to a Champions League club if such an offer is made.

Obviously that would mean Arsenal getting into the top four at the end of the season, and it could even be the case that by next summer manager Arsene Wenger has moved on to other targets anyway.

The Gunners boss is still likely to be keen to strengthen the centre of his midfield. He revealed back in February that he had missed out on N’Golo Kante twice; a player that Gueye has been likened to by pundits.
