Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is waiting for a move to Real Madrid, according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

The 23 year old has been linked with both Arsenal and the La Liga champions in recent weeks with the stopper reportedly stalling on a new contract to stay at the San Mames.

Pedulla says that Kepa has been offered €5million a season to stay at Bilbao, far more than previously reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, and it means that the keeper’s decision to stall on signing a new deal is about more than money.

It has been reported too that Bilbao want a €75m release clause for Kepa, and this has been the reason the goalkeeper has so far refused to commit his future to the Basque club. The amount could price him out of a move to Madrid.

Whether Arsenal could take advantage of the situation, it seems unlikely if the Spanish under 21 international is set on a switch to the Bernabeu. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to be pursuing a young goalkeeper as a long term replacement for Petr Cech, but they lost out to Everton for target Jordan Pickford in the summer.
