Inter Milan are keen on signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka on a pre-contract agreement in January, according to Calciomercato.com.

The German international has turned down a new contract at the Veltins-Arena and is expected to leave the Bundesliga side on a free transfer next summer.

The 22 year old will have a number of Europe’s elite clubs chasing after him with Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich all believed to be pursuing the midfielder.

Respected German journalist and Times reporter Raphael Honigstein revealed in July that Goretzka has already agreed to join Bayern next summer but the player quickly dismissed such claims as “nonsense,” shortly afterwards.

Despite the uncertainty around his future, he remains a fixture in Schalke’s first team. The German international has started the first two league games of the season against RB Leipzig and Hannover, as well as coming on as a substitute in the German Cup match against BFC Dynamo last month.
