Everton are hoping to ward off the likes of Arsenal by offering holding midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye a new contract, according to the Daily Mail columnist Simon Jones.
The Senegalese star signed from Aston Villa on their relegation to the Championship during the summer of 2016, and his work rate and ability to break up play have been likened to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
Gunner boss Arsene Wenger has previously admitted he missed out on the French international on two separate occasions, and he may be keeping tabs on Gueye due to their similar styles of play.
The Toffees midfielder has three years still to run on his current deal at Goodison Park, but manager Ronald Koeman and Everton’s hierarchy are keen to tie down the 27 year old to an improved contract so he remains with the team. It is believed his new terms will be close to other top earners at the club.
