AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta believes that Arsenal have a stronger and more competitive squad than his former club to win the Europa League this season.
The ex centre back, who spent 21 years as a player at the San Siro, was asked in an interview by Tuttosport (via Milannews24.com) about whether Milan were the best team in the competition.
“I think Arsenal at the moment has a more complete and competitive squad than the Rossoneri, then I do not see any other better trams. The opportunity to get to the end [of the competition], though, is there.”
Milan spent close to €200m in the summer on ten new players, after only finishing sixth in Serie A last season. Vincenzo Montella’s side did start the season strongly with two wins in their first two league games, but a 4-1 defeat to Lazio last weekend has shown that there is still a lot of work to do before they return to the summit of Italian football.
Arsenal begin their Europa League campaign tonight against FC Cologne at the Emirates, while Milan face Austria Vienna in their first group match of the competition this evening.
