Arsenal will not be able to strengthen the centre of their midfield by signing Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri in the next transfer window, after the Ivorian ruled out a switch in January.

The 26 year old was linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer, but he was closest to joining Barcelona before the Catalan club pulled the plug on the transfer before deadline day.

Speaking about his future to French newspaper Le Figaro (translated by TalkSport), Seri said he was disappointed that his move to Spain did not work out, but he is now looking to stay with Nice until at least the end of the season:

“Regardless of any club asking for me this winter, I won’t leave Nice before June. The summer fallout? It will take more than that to change my mind – a top-level footballer can’t afford to continue thinking about that sort of thing. It is now history and you need to look to the future and to making history with this club.”

Seri is a creative midfielder, and although he is yet to score in his nine appearances for Nice so far this campaign, he has already contributed four assists in all competitions.

Last season, he managed just nine assists in total, but he also scored seven goals, making the midfielder a potent attacking threat from central areas.
