Arsenal full back Mathieu Debuchy has spoken candidly to French newspaper L’Equipe about his current situation at the Gunners.
The former French international revealed that he has been training with the senior side during the week before having to make do with working with youth team players at the weekend. He mentions his frustrations about a failed move to Nice, and to Brighton during the summer.
The 32 year old also says that Arsene Wenger is willing to let him go on a free transfer but clubs are hesitant because of his injury record, and because of his high wages. The Frenchman says he is willing to take a pay cut to leave the Gunners for first team football but he still has not managed to find another club.
Debuchy has not made an appearances for the Gunners’ first team since last November, but with the player seemingly going nowehere, and with his contract expiring in 2019, some Arsenal fans believe he should at least be given a run out against Cologne this evening.
Here’s a selection of the Twitter reaction:
I actually feel sorry for Debuchy.

I say give Debuchy a go tonight tell him get out there and try to impress and fight for a starting position.

Debuchy should be given a start. No reason he shouldn't, let him try to impress. Bellerin needs some sort of competition.

Debuchy should be allowed to start tomorrow to see if he still has got the appetite to play for us. Started arsenal career brightly enough

Others were not so sympathetic about Debuchy’s situation though:
Why doesn't Debuchy stop moaning and just get on with it. Could easily be playing tonight, but he won't.

Can we see Mathieu Debuchy play against FC Köln for once? I want to see if he can still kick a ball or not lol. @Arsenal #afc
