Manchester City still expect to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez within the next twelve months, according to the Sun.

City manager Pep Guardiola is said to be keen to be reunited with the Chilean international after previously managing the player at Barcelona, and if a January bid fails, they will seek to sign the player on a free transfer next summer.

The Gunners have reportedly ended contract talks with the player after the 28 year old rejected a £280,000 a week offer, and the player is said to have his heart set on leaving for City despite the club’s failure to seal a £60m move for him on deadline day.

In January, when Sanchez has six months to run on his contract, the Chilean will be allowed to speak to foreign clubs about moving on a free transfer, and this could prompt City into making one last bid, the Sun reports.

Rather than the £60m proposed last week though, it is said that City will only offer £20m with the strong possibility that he will move to the Etihad stadium for free in the summer if such an offer is not accepted.
