Barcelona are looking to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka during the January transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the German international. The player’s contract expires in the summer, and German tabloid SportBild are reporting that the 22 year old favours a move to either Barca or Bayern.
To avoid having to face competition from rival suitors in the summer it seems as though the Catalan club are willing to pay a transfer fee for Goretzka when the German has just six months left on his contract.
Mundo Deportivo estimate that €10m (£8.8m) to €15m (£13.2m) could be enough to sign the playmaker with Schalke likely to accept bids rather than allow the midfielder to leave for nothing at the end of the season.
The German club are believed to be willing to offer Goretzka €10m a season to stay at the Veltins-Arena but the interest from Barca and Bayern seems to have turned the player’s head.
