Manager Arsene Wenger has refuted claims by the same German tabloid that contract talks broke down between the club and the player in February, and although he admits discussions have slowed since the start of the season, he expects them to recommence soon.
Ozill can speak to foreign clubs in January to sign a pre-contract agreement in view to a free transfer move next summer, but he will have to wait until his contract expires before discussing a switch to another English club. He previously played under United manager Mourinho for Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
For the time being, the German international’s future remains firmly up in the air. The midfielder will not be picked to start tonight’s Europa League match against FC Cologne, as Wenger rests some high profile names ahead of the Premier League clash against Chelsea at the weekend.
