Arsenal scouts have been in Germany over the past month monitoring the performances of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to the Mirror journalist Neil Moxley.
The German star was reportedly watched in Schalke’s matches against Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich, and most recently last weekend against Hoffenheim. The midfielder had started every league match this season but he was selected only as a substitute by manager Domenico Tedesco for the German team’s 2-0 defeat to Julian Nagelmann’s side on Saturday afternoon.
Reports from Germany in recent weeks have suggested that the 22 year old has his heart set on a move to either Barcelona or Bayern Munich, with Catalan publication Mundo Deportivo also reporting that Barca may consider a January bid for the German international.
Goretzka’s current contract expires at the end of the season, with clubs able to talk with the midfielder as of January 1st about a free transfer next year.
