Heerenveen are looking to extend young defender Kik Pierie’s contract beyond 2019, according to De Telegraaf.

The Dutch newspaper reports that Arsenal and a number of other Premier League clubs have been tracking the 17 year old for the last two years.

The centre back opted against a move away from the Eredivisie when he signed his first contract with Heerenveen at the age of 16, but the Dutch side are wary of losing one of their brightest young talents.

Defender Joost van Aken is poised to join Sheffield Wednesday on a multi year deal, and Pierie is being lined up as the 23 year old’s replacement in the team.

The Netherlands Under 17 international broke into the first team at the weekend, starting the 2-1 win over ADO Den Haag, after making the bench for the first two league matches of the campaign. He made his professional debut in the Europa League play-off match against FC Utrecht in May.
