Sassuolo could be the first of the trio of Italian clubs to withdraw from the race to sign Arsenal full back Carl Jenkinson, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Serie A side are reportedly trying to sell left full back Federico Peluso before making an attempt to sign the England international but they are in talks with Pescara about Cristiano Biraghi instead.

The full back is a year younger than Jenkinson at 24, and is a former Italian Under 21 international with experience of both playing in Serie A, as well as La Liga whilst on loan at Granada from Inter Milan.

He is a left back though which would suggest Sassuolo may be still interested in Jenkinson, but the Corriere Dello Sport have previously reported that the Italian club would choose to sign either Biraghi or Jenkinson, not both.

That may leave Cagliari and Hellas Verona still in the running for the 25 year old. Manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping that Jenkinson does depart before the end of the transfer window, rather than running down the final year of his contract at the Emirates.
