Arsenal have upped their asking price from £11m to £20m after Newcastle United and Brighton joined Deportivo in the fight to sign forward Lucas Perez, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Perez’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle had revealed to Goal.com a couple of weeks ago that the Gunners were looking for only €12m (£11m) after rejecting an initial €10m (£9m) bid from Depor for the 28 year old at the end of last month.

The change in price tag will not only rule out a move for Perez back to Spain, but the Sun report it will also put off both Newcastle and Brighton from making an offer for the forward.

Instead, the Sun say that both newly promoted Premier League sides will look to offer a loan deal for Perez; something that manager Arsene Wenger has been opposed to agreeing to all summer when such offers came in from Deportivo, Fenerbahce and Real Betis.
