Arsenal have no other clubs standing in their way if they want to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri after Mundo Deportivo confirmed that Barcelona are not actively pursuing the Ivorian international.

The 26 year old has a release clause of €40million but Barca are believed to be considering other alternatives if they can’t land their primary target for central midfield, Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti.

Serie A side Roma were also heavily interested in Seri earlier this summer, having made a bid for the midfielder back in June. The Italian club have since moved on to other targets leaving the Gunners the clear favourites if they want to land the player.

The Sun had tipped Seri as a possible alternative to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar but they played in different positions for their respective clubs last season. Seri was Nice’s playmaker in the middle of the park having scored seven goals and provided nine assists, while Lemar played almost exclusively as a left winger for Monaco.
