Arsenal attempts to land Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio have been dealt a blow with the 21 year old seemingly on a verge of signing a new five year contract to stay at the Bernabeu.

The Spanish international has been locked in contract discussions for a number of months over a new deal, and the lack of progress in negotiations prompted speculation that the Gunners and other top European clubs may try to sign the player.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that they have it on good authority that Real have managed to tie down Asensio until 2022, with the attacking midfielder’s new deal reportedly doubling his buyout clause.

The Catalan publication say the Spanish starlet had a clause of €80m but that will now double to €150m. The new contract has not yet been confirmed by the La Liga champions though, but it seems likely Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will now have to turn his attentions to other targets.
