Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali could be heading for Germany next season, according to his brother.

The Nigerian joined the Gunners in 2016 after impressing at the Under 17 World Cup, but he was ineligible to play in the UK due to the lack of a work permit.

Nwakali has yet to play for Nigeria’s senior side after being capped at both Under 17 and Under 20 level, and he was loaned out to Dutch second division side Maastricht where he played 34 times last season.

Speaking on a Nigerian radio station in Lagos (quotes via NaijaFootballplus.com), Allwell Nwakali revealed that four clubs have expressed an interest in the 19 year old for a second loan spell:

“It would be nice if he tries another major league in Europe, especially the German Bundesliga. A lot of clubs are inquiring [about] his services. Hoffenheim, Freiburg have shown interest to bring him to their squad but it’s all left for Arsenal to choose where they want their young lad to play next season.”

“We have also received offers from Dutch teams including FC Twente and Excelsior but we would prefer he joins a German club because of the league competitiveness and that’s where it will suit his style of play.”

Both Freiburg and Hoffenheim are involved in European competitions next season. After finishing seventh in the Bundesliga, Freiburg will be competing in the Europa League, while Hoffenheim finished in fourth and will go into the playoffs for the Champions League group stage.
